I work to ensure your doctors take you seriously and respond to your concerns with respectful, clear communication. As your advocate, I offer unique skills in applied medical sociology to help you obtain information and confidently communicate your decisions. Years of interviewing physicians and over ten years as a patient advocate mean that I've explored all sides of the doctor-patient encounter, in-depth. This research serves as guidance and an evidence basis for patient advocacy that builds relationships. I also offer reassurance, emotional support, and practical guidance personalized to your needs and concerns.
I facilitate collaboration between you and your care team. We start by identifying your values, communication needs, and opportunities for teamwork. I promote flexible and open information-sharing between you and your doctors, helping each side listen to learn. By brokering many possible social divisions that create barriers to quality care, I advocate the integrity and quality of communication you and your doctors both seek. Along the way, I offer a supportive non-medical presence for clients who wish to find meaning in their experiences with illness. This sociological expertise best serves those who want decision support due to the complexity of diagnostic, treatment, caregiving, or other options provided by their doctors.
In our first 15 minutes, I'll get to know you and listen carefully to what you're looking for in an advocate. We'll discuss how I can help, so I recommend preparing a few key questions. For example, you could ask how a consultation can add value to your healthcare journey and how the process of working together would proceed. If everything sounds good, I'll send over a contract, and we can get started. I look forward to meeting you!
