I will be there to advocate and advise throughout your hospital experience, anticipating need and in-the-moment support
First Visit Expectation- As a patient and family advocate I am available to become part of your support team by providing you with an insiders perspective of hospitals and how they work, what to expect, what could and should be happening, and how to navigate the process. I can provide direct advocacy or offer guidance and recommendations. On your first call I will listen as you describe your situation or concern, and we can decide if my services meet your needs. It is not uncommon for those seeking help to not know what they need or want, and I can help you identify what that is for you. Once we determine that we are a good match, we will discuss your goals and create an immediate plan and ongoing strategy. My background: I have an extensive nursing career, and recently stepped away from the clinical area. I have worked in a variety of areas throughout the hospital in several roles, primarily in Intensive Care Units with patients experiencing life threatening cardiac, respiratory, neurologic, and traumatic conditions and trauma. I have also worked in other hospital nursing units and thus understand what processes should be happening during your stay. A a leader in the developed of a Rapid Response program, and working closely in that role for 15 years, we supported the Emergency Department, and multiple inpatient nursing units partnering with staff and physicians during critical events to optimize the patients opportunity for recovery and wellness. My professional interactions are collaborative and confident, as I know how the system works, what should be happening, and can skillfully assist you in navigating through the process. Your unique situation will help us work as a team while we determine what best meets your needs and what is possible. I continue to have a desire to help people by providing support through education, advocacy, and empathy and hope to have the opportunity to serve you as well. Throughout my career I was an adjunct faculty member teaching student nurses, a legal nurse consultant, a TeamSTEPPs instructor, and participated in FEMA education with their National Incident Management Program and Disaster Preparedness Programs. I also have volunteered in Haiti as medical support and with Team Rubicon. Ive had other leadership roles within nursing departments providing mentorship, quality initiatives, education, and advocacy. I have always maintained my focus of patient safety while providing care. When hospitalized there are many caregivers interacting with patients and their families such as doctors, nurses, therapists, and technicians. With the variety of services and interventions occurring simultaneously it can become overwhelming when someone is not prepared for the changing events, or is fearful of what is to come. My goal is to help you and your family members to feel safe while providing you with the knowledge and support through your anticipated or current hospitalization.
